Write to us about your ex flame!

We’d love to hear and include your ex-Singaporean (or current) pride and joy.
As stated, we’d like to hear about your stories and old automotive love.
This dedicated post about your car could be a public space to share about your ex pride and joy that will be slotted into the SG Archives segment of the website.

Short-term usage is: it will be kept in this website for you and I to look back on what used to be in Singapore – nothing more. More may be it being advertised on social media under our accounts, or being used as editorial photos in other articles in this website.
If this is breached in the long-term and any of us use it for other gains (I personally hope we never get to a point where the site is being used for monetization), please write to us and reference this exact excerpt.
What we’d like to know
At least a photo or two – a photo of your car. While we inevitably will prefer the enthusiast ride, legacy cars in general are absolutely fine too – we won’t discriminate (until we do but that is testing waters on our end). We will prefer cars made before 2020, but if you think your car is ripe for some storytelling or rare and should be documented, get in touch.
Update: For videos, please forward us in the form of an attached link like unlisted (or not, will be your choice) YouTube video! After assessing, we found that loading videos will significantly slow the link down. We appreciate your understanding.
Your recount – What it was when you took over, how long you had owned it, what you did to it, your community and what you bought after letting go. These are pointers but we are fine with your preferred way of storytelling. It can be paragraphs long or a simple excerpt – anything goes (for the time being).
Optional – What you drive now and how it compares with your old car, and your thoughts on the current enthusiast landscape, how friendly it is for upcoming enthusiasts and general thoughts. Its open-ended, so throw us what you feel!

Writing in? How?
The primary designated line for this would be to email your photos and text to charademail@proton.me. Alternatively, you may reach out to Efini via our Instagram @charadesg regarding the topic.
Opinionated pieces like Talk Torque (formally Fuel for Thought) are also available but subject to topics. We won’t recommend it but you can always toss a draft or subject line and we can take a look.

Possible questions we’ll answer now
Are these anonymous? It will be unless you state otherwise that you want to be named or referenced!
Are overseas contributions allowed? We already have MY Archives for Malaysian side, but as we don’t cover other countries, we don’t have a supporting segment for it. BUT, feel free to let us know if you are keen as we are open to making a category where appropriate!
Will you contact us again after? We might send subsequent requests like photos or information where necessary. Though as the timeline for putting them onto the website might take weeks or months to be published, we may not do so.
What’s the timeline from submission to publishing? Well, frankly we don’t have a timeline for this at all. Some of our projects are still years in the making though your submissions are unlikely to be in the back burner for as long (we think). I personally feel that you can expect at least a month for it to get to a finished state – we have other life commitments is one thing.
Why should I? We have zero incentive for you to contribute. No money, no time, no fame (slightly debatable), so this is only an option for you if you are as enthusiastic as us about archiving the local car landscape before it becomes lost media.

A draft piece that you may email us could be something like this sample:
Hey guys. Just thought I would fill in and share about my ex car with you.
My family used to own a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer EX GT. I bought it in 2019 shortly after it was renewed for 5 years, so it wouldn’t be a forever car.
It was more reliable than the Subaru Impreza 1.6A hatchback that came before it! And the 2-litre engine had some kick to it, even if it wasn’t actually that fast. I most remember “chasing” a Lamborghini down CTE in it – even if the faster car wasn’t actually looking to race!
We added a wing from Taobao then. After an initial test run, we found one of the bolts were loose and the wing could have flew off worst case scenario! It was bolted correctly, eventually with added horns on the roof – we called it a devil because of our driving habits…
The car left us after we traded it in for our next car. It was sold to someone else and we spotted it outside of Mandai Rd shortly before its expiry.
(do attach us as much photos as you’d like, over the years or whatever you have on hand, or however much photos you want to be archived by us)

Admittedly, Efini is flooded with his backlog of old photos and I am busy with life, so these articles may take a while to come through. But the opportunity is here, and we’re open to collate something together, and for it to be published in a dedicated website for this kind of media. Let us know!
