With scarce information regarding factory options and etc for the Honda Civic Ferio SiR, EG9 model code, we’ve decided to try to collate our findings the SiR spec, including generally equipment options.
What is a EG9?
An EG9 is a Honda Civic Ferio SiR in the Japanese market, or a Honda Civic VTi sedan in European or export markets.
The “Ferio” nameplate was primarily used in the domestic market as a way to market the sedan, whilst other markets simply referred to it as the Civic sedan.
The JDM SiR and EUDM VTi both come with an EG9 model code, albeit full Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is different for Japanese and export market cars.
The universal way to identify the VIN is the indent located on the firewall (slightly towards the left). Export and domestic market have a VIN plate, commonly referred in some regions as “bluetag” because of their blue plate.
The tag for Japanese market vehicles is located and spotted easily on the radiator support, while the export market tags are located on the firewall, normally behind the battery.

This is an easier way to identify the VIN number of a sixth-generation (EG) Honda Civic, and is also applicable for the fifth (EF) and seventh (EK) generation Civic, with minor differentiation in tag location. However, these plates can be removed and replaced, so it may not always be accurate.
The EG9 is the only saloon to come standard with the B-series VTEC engine. For the SiR, the engine is the B16A, and for the VTi, it received the B16A2.
The B16A2 is an export variant of the B16A, and there are quoted power differences between the two (B16A is slightly higher in horsepower), but differences are negligible.
Both VTi and SiR were offered in manual and automatic transmissions, a 5MT and 4AT to be exact. I have read a source or two that mention the automatic VTi came with a B16A5 that made 155 bhp.
Colors
Below are a list of color options all offered (for Japanese market) for the Honda Civic Ferio range. Color options differ based on model year variants, though more accurately (based on documentation) outlined by their starting VIN numbers.
It is possible that some of these color numbers are also the painted colors for items like door mouldings, such as NH576M.
To reiterate, offered colors are based on what “series” the vehicle was produced, which can be checked from the VIN number and the first three numbers, such as 100, 110, 120 or 130 (ex. EG8-1008902 or EJ3-1107300):
- B63P Harvard Blue Pearl – EG7, EG8, EG9, EH1 (VIN 100 – 130+), EJ3 (VIN 100 – 110+) / ALL
- G71P Isle Green Pearl – ALL
- NH503P Granada Black Pearl – EG7, EG8, EG9, EH1 (VIN 130+), EJ3 (VIN 110+)

Gauge clusters
The SiR is the only model offered with white-faced gauges. JDM non-SiR models (specifically EG8) also have door sensors.
The SiR is the only model available with an optional Traction Control System (TCS). The SiR, VTi and EXi (trim available 1993 onwards) had a limited-slip differential (LSD) and anti-lock brakes (ABS) as optional.
The export market VTi does not feature the same gauge cluster.

The export market VTi features an identical layout (no current information on specification differences), but does not have the door diagram.
There are at least four variations of the SiR cluster:
Automatic cluster without TCS (seatbelt icon is relocated under Check Engine Light [CEL])

Automatic cluster with TCS

Manual cluster without TCS

Manual cluster with TCS (TCS icon is lit up in yellow but hard to see, next to TCS OFF)

Steering wheels
The SiR is the only trim within the Civic Ferio range with its own dedicated steering wheel:
Leather-wrapped wheel

Exclusive to the SiR is the leather-wrapped steering wheel. This is standard equipment for the SiR which was also available to the hatchback, which may come in a lighter variant due to interior color differences.
Black is likely the only shade available for the Ferio SiR, anything like light grey may be hatchback SiR equipment.
The export VTi uses the same full-plastic steering wheel as other trims.
Below is a Civic Ferio brochure listing the leather-wrapped wheel as standard equipment:

MOMO 4-spoke Ghibli 4

The more popular OEM-option wheel for the EG Civic. We are unable to find any huge differences for the Honda-supplied Ghibli 4 apart from the “MOMO Honda” horn button.
It is likely possible to use an off-the-shelf Ghibli 4 and swap the horn button to replicate the option. The spokes of the steering wheel have two horn buttons on either side, and can be wired to serve as the horn.
Below is the Honda Access brochure listing the MOMO wheel as an available option:

Note that some Honda part resellers may quote the Ghibli 3 (3-spoke MOMO wheel with identical horn button) as an Access item for the EG Civic, but from 1991-1995, this is not present on any JDM catalogs. The Ghibli 3 was an option for the equivalent model-year Honda Beat with the same horn button.
Interior seats
The JDM SiR and export VTi came with bespoke front and rear bucket seats, making for a sporty and beautiful 2+2 layout.
For the Japanese market, the pre-facelift interior, dubbed “Dedicated combination tricot” has four listed color types in the 1993 catalog. Also mentioned is the SiR receives only a black instrument panel and lining, while all other models may have the same pieces in grey.

There is a lot of missing information for this segment, so it may be inaccurate.
Japanese-market pre-facelift “unsaturated”

This is the more common color scheme for the pre-facelift, however the differences between this and the other brighter color is unknown as there doesn’t seem to be any consistency and mentions of the variations being offered.
Japanese-market pre-facelift “blue”

This is the same colorway except the outer material is a brighter and blue-r color. I have no information on why there is such a difference, but I don’t think I am necessarily seeing wrong when there actually is such a coloration difference!
Japanese-market facelift “unsaturated”

We could not find a official name for the facelifted seats, but the fabric uses a striped pattern for the inner material, a more black but seemingly identical outer material compared to the pre-facelift.
Japanese-market facelift “purple-ish”

These, like the pre-facelift, have a confusing slight color alteration. We, again, don’t have information on it (if you know anything about the colorway differences, please comment and reach out to us).
These have the outer material to be slightly more pink-ish, and the pattern within the inner material has a red pattern inside the pattern, making the material look slightly more purple-ish.
Interior doorcards
The SiR interiors have unique doorcard materials that pair with the materials used on the seats. Since the seats themselves change, so do the doorcards.
Japanese-market pre-facelift

The pre-facelift SiR doorcards use a grey material that are identical with the color of the inner seat material. The texture is mostly flat.
These doorcards are also available (both facelift and pre-facelift) with door-installed tweeters. Door tweeters are small speakers that are mounted in the door that plays the highest notes in audio, improving quality.
The tweeter location stays universal from pre-facelift to facelift, and is mounted right above the window switch controls (the circlular extrusion).
Japanese-market facelift

The facelift doorcards all match the seat material. These may also happen to have a variation to match the other variant of material, but because the photos are too scarce, it won’t be included.

Strut brace
I’ve noticed that the performance models seem to come available from factory with a front struct brace. Digging through the Ferio brochures, it is confirmed that the SiR Ferio had a “front tower bar / performance rod” which is the struct brace. Front and rear stabilizers were installed from factory.

This likely is also standard equipment for the hatchback SiR (EG6) and possibly for the later-generation EK4.
Mudguards
Mudguards or mudflaps (different item to these) are optional pieces for all trim levels. Some reproduced / different market items may not be the same as the SiR piece. Differences include most predominantly the rear mudflaps.
SiR / VTi (JP) mudflaps

RT-Si / RTX / Thai / Malaysian-market mudflaps

Thai-produced mudguards produced in Thailand. These and identical ones can be found on e-commerce sites like Shopee. These larger-sized mudflaps were available on the Japanese market RT-Si and RTX trim; four-wheel drive variants of the Civic chassis-named EH1.
These may also be an option for Thai-market Civic sedans.
Single DIN / Double DIN
We are unsure of the armrest piece and how interchangeable it is with the two types of DIN configuration, but the center piece where the shift boot is located is likely not interchangeably used.

The single DIN may feature cupholders as standard equipment for the SiR as there are lower-spec center consoles that do not have cupholders. The double DIN center console also does not have cupholders.
Double-DIN consoles may be a standard option for export market certain export market models for the VTi trim.
Armrests
Long armrest
The long armrest option was primarily promoted to be used with the Honda Gathers CD disc changer. This option was available across multiple trim levels, including the SiR. Available for pre-facelift and facelift, the armrest cover would have matching material with the seats.

Wheels
The SiR and VTi had available options for wheels.
Base-option hudcap, “Swirls”

SiR/VTi base option wheels are 15-inch hudcaps referred to as “Swirls”. These are mounted by lug nuts with flange design according to official Honda documentation.
In specific markets like Hong Kong, these hudcaps have a 14-inch variation.
5-spokes, “Fatfives”

Optional five-spoke wheels dubbed “Fatfives” are a 15-inch option limited only to the SiR/VTi for both body styles. These are a 15×5.5 option.

Multi-spoke “Snowflakes”

Multi-spoke wheels dubbed “Snowflakes” are the most sought after option for the SiR. They are the same size as the Fatfives at 15×5.5, but come in silver and black. These were also available for the Japanese hatchback although unverified to be available for export markets.
These may not have been available for export markets.
08W15-SR3-F61. 08W15-SR3-F71
Tri-Spokes

This is the rarest SiR wheel option. Even with extensive research, this wheel has been found only in promotional images on this silver SiR above, and within a UKDM accessories catalog for the EK-generation. We are not aware of any of these wheels in circulation.
The center caps have been spotted on sale before, but the wheel itself has largely been an unknown. These come in two colors; white and silver.

Spoilers
Standard
The SiR received a bespoke ducktail-type spoiler with LED that is standard option. Export market VTi models may or may not received the spoiler as an optional extra, but was not offered as standard equipment.
This spoiler is an LED piece with Stanley stamping on the glass. There is also a Chinese reproduction of this spoiler circulating and available for sale in certain e-commerce websites.

Optional spoiler
There is an optional LED spoiler reserved for other Civic Ferio trims. According to official Japanese accessory catalogs, this spoiler is actually unavailable for the EL, SiR and RTSi models.
Due to a surviving HKDM SiR having this optional spoiler, there was an assumption by us that this was a possible optional piece. It may be the case for HKDM but unlikely to be.

Rest of the optional extras
There are many, many other optional extras available for the Civic Ferio. Included and not limited to are bumper protectors, keyless entry, model vanity plates, bumper sensors, and more. Check out the rest of the website for nearly all Japanese Civic Ferio brochures.
This guide will be added on in time, based on new information, additions or revisions.
