Some minor additions to the car to tidy it up a little. Untidy is my list of future plans which remains too ambitious.
There are some extra things that I went to get for the Civic Ferio that wasn’t mentioned in the other entries.
Malaysia will still surprise me by how “open” it is hands-on or creative things in general. Take e-commerce for example. Singapore’s sites are very neutered and devoid of uncommon things. What they sell tend to always be “surface-level” – very little interesting things or enthusiast items available, with only China-based applications being able to fulfill the niche aspect of parts or day-to-day items.
Malaysia on the other hand sells an abundance of spare parts and stockists, with some scrapyards selling parts on e-commerce platforms or stickers, replica items, exhausts, turbochargers… its crazy compared to Singapore.
Feriko was missing the flare holder and well, the flare. Under S$30, a nut and washer and it looks a little more authentic to being a random Japanese import lurking Malaysian roads.
I don’t really know whether the protruding screw is supposed to be there at all, as the only other source that shows the emergency flare is slight forward and up compared to its current position.
Not to mention the replica Japanese plates. The grass will always be greener, yeah? In Japan, these Civic Ferio are always modified to a USDM (United States Domestic Market) look, while this Malaysian-imported Japanese SiR is… becoming Japanese again.
It registers to me that this might be seen as distasteful, so I do apologize about it. I believe my front bumper is missing hardware to actually mount front plates via the provided plate holes. I also cannot get the rear seal to make it look authentic, but I bought replica seals that didn’t arrive in time. I know that’s likely more distasteful, sorry…
I have a few things that I will plop in here as a checklist for my next time seeing the car again that is within my ability to fulfill:
- Double-DIN center console (but no radio, no idea how I’ll find a period-correct unit or what to do with three DIN slots)
- Honda Access floor mats (every now and then do they pop up for sale in Malaysia)
- Replacement SiR driver seat (or restitch)
- Replacement passenger-side seat rail (original’s rusted)
- Engine bay hardware (bolts, etc – interested to freshen up the engine bay more)
- Oil change (roughly somewhere at the 3,000 kilometre range but considering it for peace of mind)
- Original Japanese front bumper (current one in fair condition but also likely a reproduced bumper considering crash repair, and it got redrilled)
Additionally are a few things that I might be keen to get (because they’re available for sale), but probably unlikely to:
- MUGEN 4-1 headers (decent piece available for RM700)
- Honda Civic Type R (EK9) aluminium casing Gathers door speakers (RM428 but I literally don’t need it lol)
- Used MUGEN steel braided brake lines (its better to get something like Arospeed for a fraction of the cost)
- Rear bumper parking pole (one’s available for RM550 but its not really needed or wanted)
- Rear door JDM Ferio side “triangle” trim (roughly RM250 to RM400, not yet high on the list considering the price)
- Satellite Gathers speakers (a few sets for RM450 to RM500, but also unnecessary)
- MUGEN replica front lip and sideskirts (I think I’d be happier keeping it original, they’re RM450 a set)
Wishful… but nevermind, I’ll figure them out eventually.
