We’re looking at cars again.
With an internal ballot on the cars that we like over a few months, its narrowed down to two saloons within the RM11,000 mark. Here, we see and decide on what would be worth it – only on paper.
Ripely priced, condition hardly ripe
This Honda Civic Ferio SiR EG9 grey import won… because its really cheap. Although some of us have learned that cheap doesn’t mean good, this was still picked because its really cheap. Efini says that the market average is RM11,000 to RM34,000, so an original grey import EG9 from Japan for RM7,500 is clearly ambitious.
It is an automatic which is what majority of the grey imports are,and the interior is extremely rough and paint is likely not original – the engine bay white does not match the supposedly Vogue Silver Metallic exterior. The radiator support tag is still present as is the engine itself, but the rest of the car’s condition remains to be seen.
Conversion for things to come
This “Wiravo” or “Wiralution” or more plainly Lancer-converted Proton Wira was a close second. At a then-listed price of RM10,000, it is very expensive for a Proton Wira but on the affordable end of Lancer conversions. This car has had the rear quarter panels replaced with a Lancer rear end, which is extensive work.
It still retains what is likely a Single Overhead Camshaft 1.6-litre 4G92P engine, so converting it up to a full Lancer Evolution with engine and drivetrain is probably within the RM15,000 range just to do.
Alternatively, switch it to a normal Lancer or a Lancer GSR with a matching 1.8-litre turbocharged 4G93. With the rear already converted, its a matter of which. We are split on a Lancer GSR conversion or Lancer Evolution replica.
