Archival: Nissan Cedric catalog (1991) (Japan)

Japanese-market Nissan Cedric catalog complete with a Singapore-themed shoot!
The first catalog with relevancy to Singapore!
Likely at a time where little Singapura was a bit exotic to the Japanese, some of the locations were shot in Singapore. This is not the only catalog with Singaporean plates or location – more known is a Nissan Silvia (S13) catalog taken in the country, and a Cefiro (A31) catalog that seems to share shoot locations (basically only the “stone tunnel”), without the number plates.
This Cedric catalog remains as one of two “complete” Singapore-themed catalogs from Nissan, since it has both Singapore-esque plates (the checksum – last letter – is incorrect and certain number plates starting with 0) and locations.
The locations shot that are verifiable is the old Marina Square cascade staircase, but the others, such as the Overseas Union Bank is difficult to verify. For those who are more familiar, please get in touch with us via our social media posts or here! We want to add citations and images where necessary to verify!
There are two Cedric catalogs that look similar. One of them has a red cover but does not have the hillside photo that this gold cover catalog has.

On a funny note, this is the first catalog to be scanned in two countries! I started 70% of the catalog in Singapore around March of this year but only finished the rest in April in Penang. I do note that because of how the catalog was angled, the ones taken in Penang could be more angled or wavy. Nevertheless, the scans look legible and that’s what matters more.
If anyone knows more about why Nissan internally chose to gather their photos in Singapore and the local plates, let us know! There is an air of mystery and intrigue to this and the Silvia catalog, and knowing the decision to host these locally would be great trivia for us to keep somewhere as trivia.
Catalog scanned from a 1991, 3M (March) release.
