MotorGala: Honda Civic Type R (FD2R)

Battle-scarred Honda Civic Type R takes the scene for this writer’s first photoshoot.
Normally, I cover events that are have multiple subjects – such as car meets where subjects pass change from one to another – so it leaves me with no experience with an individualized shoot. That changes with this little event that happened last year yet feels like a lifetime ago.
Its @unlimited_fd2r and his Crystal Black Honda Civic Type R (FD2R); complete with battle scars of old and a “all-go-no-show” attitude.

“9711” has seen many years of automotive extravaganza and been part of just as many.
The “battle scars” are real; the sort of extra detail that gets some enthusiasts high of (not because the stone chips look like drugs).

The cosmetic wear matches the high mileage nature of this Type R, around the 350,000km mark during this shoot. It is also lightly modified with a setup more akin to a cruiser like the Accord Euro R, instead of a bruiser that is a track Type R.
Its a tired-looking Civic that keeps packing punches without the general public knowing; an understated car most representative of the saying “If You Know, You Know”.

Looking back a year later, this was very much a tipping point in my experiences, exposure in the automotive world (in terms of keeping it car-related for this car-website) and photography. Those formally involved in this shoot know that this I wasn’t really supposed to join it – and that driving myself there was… surprising. Perceptions have definitely changed and my personal transport is more synonomous than before.
I’m not quite in the same group that formed after this shoot but still keep in touch, although that carefree and free-to-respond engagement is gone. Suppose we’re all busy now.
But that’s my personal monologue. For related parties, all photos are downloadable from here, although there should still be the old (and rotting) Drive link somewhere..
