Feriko: She looks ok

My evaluation of Feriko after February. She’s okay – a clean and rust treatment soonest but contented is the best I feel. Please don’t give me more problems.
Feriko is fine. As for the owner, probably not.
For the past month or so, Feriko has been suffering with a Check Engine Light (CEL) that as told to me was caused by the VTEC valve solenoid.
Finding the solenoid proved difficult due to lack of supply when I went digging. The pair that came forward – one used and one brand new as a reproduction unit from China – eventually proved useless when my workshop then confessed it was more aligned to wiring issues.

So I have now spent RM350 on two spare solenoids – which I can both complain and not about. The wiring was slightly redone, with some repaired or bypassed due to the brittle nature of the cables. As I’ve just experienced earlier today with supposed grounding issues (accessories flickering, possible alternator hum, super inconsistent idle), my trouble with the wiring is not done. But can kwee VTEC now, so ok lah.
I’d rather have the peace of mind for a renewed harness, though.

I think Feriko is as fine as can be (excluding rust) now. Nowhere close to a dream spec in parts, but the pride and joy is not discarded. I’ve lost steam to keep comparing it to other units and am happy to keep it this way and slowly do it up as the years come. No COE for this unit after all, and not like I can import and register in Singapore either! (not an original manual, no-go)

It’ll probably be nowhere near being showcase-ready in my ownership, but it’ll be a fair unit that somehow survived Malaysian weather and owners for 25 years. Imported in 2001, Feriko would now be celebrating her 25th anniversary living in “Honda-land”, where parts are mercibly still available and cheaper than other enthusiastic spaces – keeping her running will prove easier… especially not with the bloody COE – two recent posts of Civic VTi saloons have reminded me what a genuine cult classic these EG9s are.
I’ll absolutely regret selling it whenever the time comes.
