Another 90s Japanese sports car has fallen in Singapore. The Mitsubishi cull resumes.

After the Lancer RALLIART listing, the Mitsubishi culling continues with yet another enthusiast model. Jackie Chan chans, I’m sorry to report that one of the final few Mitsubishi FTOs in Singapore is now up for scrap.

This is likely SCW169R, a unit that has seen a lot, from repaints to liveries to maybe an actual police pursuit.

The FTO is a niche sports car from the brand of the diamond star, once nearly eclipsing (not the USDM one) the performance of the revving Honda Integra Type R (DC2). Its also a front-wheel-drive sports car mated to a four-speed “Tiptronic” automatic transmission or five-speed manual. The most notable engine available was a 2-litre 6A12 V6 engine, with a horsepower figure of up to 197 horses at its best variant.

Cycle & Carriage Singapore only released the FTO in 2.0A guise, which during the internet era, only one Parallel-Import manual GP-X spec remained and was deregistered possibly around 2018. The rest remaining, around five units, were all automatics.

This will be amongst the first FTOs publicly sent to its eventual execution. This unit has been spotted multiple times across the 2010s, in black and grey, stripes and side decals, and seemingly a police chase courtesy of a DUI. It should be mentioned that the connection between both cars are unknown as the plates are blanked and SCW169R is one of two FTOs (SBC6622B) that are of a Nardo Grey color.

Via some cross-referencing, this FTO is likely a low-owner unit, with the single surviving sales listing of it indicating it had four owners in 2020. For other spotters who would like to verify, any black FTO with two grey stripes spotted in the 2010s is this unit being listed for scrap.

It is the end of the road for this FTO. For a sum of RM6,500 listed in the respective groups specializing in this business, its a cheap proposition for halfcut shops to serve the needs of the Malaysian community. Too bad for a somewhat well-documented unit.
