SG Archives: ɛ̃fini RX-7

Hello again, ɛ̃fini RX-7, seven years on.
Returning back to the 2000s once again…
Going via the LTA registry, this RX-7 is an ɛ̃fini model. ɛ̃fini was a luxury-oriented spinoff from the Mazda brand – similar to the chemistry with Lexus and Toyota. Officially, they operated from 1991 to 1997, making the brand a quick stint in Mazda’s history and one that saw just over half of the FD-generation RX-7’s lifespan.
The contemporary RX-7 was one of a few models rebranded under ɛ̃fini, alongside a few sedans (like the 626 becoming the MS-6) and a SUV.
Going by limited documentation, these ɛ̃fini RX-7s are likely to have been base model grey imports.

The plate number (SDR) is a February 2002 issue, suggesting a renewed or reissued plate during renewal or for handover. It was registered in 1993, seemingly a third-owner car when it was listed for sale back in 2015, and likely with its fourth owner since.
Its remained effectively the same – a Knight Sports Type-6 front bumper and perhaps muffler too, still on the same Yokohama AVS Model T5 wheel set and original Efini parts.

Seven years ago and I was absolutely enthralled to see this car way back in Yio Chu Kang – a time already distant when the road was still comprehensible and not gutted by new housing developments and MRT pillar obstruction.
But I know also that the childish fascination has long waned; undeservedly now a custodian of a sports car of similar vintage, and that childhood glimmer is gone. My eyes didn’t light up… that’s sad.
I’m getting old. Rather, we’re getting old.
