Fuel for Thought: Dandelion-flavored Proton Satria SE to feast your eyes

Very, very tempting Satria that may as well be a budget-friendly option to the GTi.
What do you do when your car is in the workshop? You scout for another one that can be brushed off as being the new daily for the daily.
Proton Satria GTis are getting more expensive, with their average asking prices slowly creeping up to a RM5-10k increase in their average asking over the past six years. The Handling by Lotus prowess is undeniably spicy plus the twincam motor that is the 1.8-litre Mitsubishi-derived 4G93P motor, makes the GTi the best performance variant for the first-generation Satria, exempting the R3.
So an alternative needs to be met for this cheapo writer, and oh, that’s quite something. This Proton Satria SE could just be it, and its more than meets the eye – from factory, at least.
Its a very limited production run variant of the Mitsubishi-body Satria, and is the last variant of Satria before its discontinuation and release of the Satria Neo.

The 1.5-litre 4G15 variant comes with a Siemens VDO fuel injection system for better throttle response and smoothness. Fitted from factory is exhaust extractors and sport system, increasing power output by about 7 horsepower.
The original wheels are a 16-inch affair, alongside a factory rear stabilizer bar – just like a Satria GTi.
Offered only in this Dandelion Yellow and Black Panther paintwork with a factory bodykit (really different Mitsubishi / Proton bumpers put together), exclusive decals and interior pieces like the gauge cluster, seats, yellow-outlined carpets and color-coded center console, the Satria SE is a pretty handsome package.
Combined with this unit with slight modifications like spicy Bridgestone Super RAP wheels, upgraded radiator and Mooneyes shift knob, its a coordinated beauty. And for the price of RM6,600.. its rather tempting, isn’t it?

If you want to snag this before I ever could, you can find this well done-up warm hatch on marketplace.
