MotorGala: Classic Cars ‘N’ Kopi (2nd edition)

By Linus (Efini)

The second edition of Classic Cars ‘N’ Kopi features classic Minis with a side of new-old retro cars.

To summarize the event, the overall turnout was measurably better compared to the first iteration.

I think by now, people have seen the first meet here and have opted to try it out and see how the experience is – which is honestly good and personally better than Dempsey.

The turnout for this meet was much different than the previous event – where some of the notable cars that showed up last time have reappeared, there was a steady influx of familiar faces from the Dempsey meets and old-new cars that don’t often appear at all.

Not a newcomer, but a favorite in the meet!

Part of why I’ve come to love attending these events, apart from reconnecting with friends, were meeting new people.

It might be common knowledge for some, but I’m becoming more and more surprised to understand that the Elan M100 was actually quite popular in Singapore. I’ve heard before of it being a dream convertible for some, to someone creating a licence plate registry for them as far back as they were new.

I spoke with another ex-owner during this meet who now owns a classic Alfa Romeo, and another Mercedes W124 owner who was viewing the unit that was for sale.

Not this example, in any case it’ll be a POA 👻

I think this is the first time Elanmi has parked with a few other British Roadsters (that doesn’t speak Japanese). Accompanying her was my friend’s MGB GT and a Triumph Spitfire – the original British Roadsters and one of Britan’s few attempts to revive that market segment!

On this meet I was keen to reuse an older Lumix camera I had but failed to make good use of, so some photos will be up-to-standard in modern-day quality, whilst others will be less so, since said camera is a little old.

With the illustration theme being the original MK1 Mini, it wouldn’t be a surprise that at least one would show up. Singapore’s appreciation for the now-MINI brand and its forebears remain strong, seen by this turnout of both black-plated Minis and classic-plated ones.

The significant advantage of having extremely minature cars –
collective (and non-intrusive) double parking!

Having been to two of MINIs media events in recent times, I can affirm that they still hold strong relations with their fanbase.

MORNING welcomed early visitors with free coffee samples plus a showcase of their coffee machines – perfect for those who don’t normally wake up at 7 AM and need sustenance for the rest of the day.

Once again, although there are parking gantries at New Bahru, enthusiasts who drove in may receive complimentary parking coupons (4 hours in this case).

All in all, the session was another personal hit – not much to go wrong with the smiles and laughs shared with other folks about a common hobby.

Thanks to @mgbgt_sg, @toowidesupra and @cozycoup for accompanying me around the meet!

With the door actually being the front piece of the Isetta, you sure hope someone doesn’t
hit you head-on!

I have not seen this particular unit before – assume it to be an official import MX-5 1.6.
Miata emblems would (originally) be installed on the markets like USDM that referred to the
MX-5 as the Miata.
Understandably reupholstered and overall tidy interior.

If I am not mistaken, these would be stock NB MX-5 wheels – thumbs up for keeping it OEM!

Much as I prefer OEM stuff, a 2002 on Work Equip 40 is a perfect blend that just works.

Meanwhile, this other 2002ti has a very different overall outlook.

One of a few modified Toyota Crowns in Singapore – this one doesn’t disappoint.
What I remember to be a dealer sticker on the rear bumper.

This caused a good stir among Porsche enthusiasts – a genuine 993 Carrera RS! Very limited
production of a quoted 1017 total made. Hearsay that this is one of two registered in the country.

The design concept of this Civic VTi is giving me heavy inspiration for Feriko.
Though I am still committed to doing a OEM+ result for my own Civic, I will confess that this
EG9 has been on the back of my mind for a while.

If I committed to make my car into a boy-racer style, I’d have it similar to this.

A very well-coordinated SiR EK4 hatchback, I must say. The amount of Mugen parts I assume
could surpass >S$10k in total cost – Mugen parts aren’t cheap nowadays.

124 duo! One a 200E and the other a 230TE – which of the two would you pick?

New Bahru meets seem to be well-spaced out for many parking duos and trios to form.
This Ferrari F430 Scuderia and 360 Challenge Stradale combo is hard to beat!

Grey-scaled as both vehicles compliment each other!

Amongst the few British roadsters was this gem of a British hot hatch – Ford Sierra XR4i.

This BMW 3-Series E30 316i was quite the attraction after it parked up.

M-Tech 2 front bumper (if not the whole kit) and Alpina wheels

Single-digit population for a car you normally don’t bat an eye for.
The Kia Magentis is… its rare.

Even the police get to be spotted – courtesy of their Land Rover Defender 110 fleet.

Youngtime automotive interest combined with photography, writing and documentation. Appreciating classic cars was a financial mistake.
