SG Archives: Lotus Elan SE (British Racing Green)

Archiving, and my token of appreciation to a familiar sight that influences now, three years on.
Objects reappearing in my rear-view mirror.. my little heartfelt appreciation to another Elan here in Singapore.
This British Racing Green (BRG) Lotus Elan on the left was the very car I remember seeing at a Horizon Driver’s Club (HDC) meet some three whole years ago.
It wasn’t the first M100 I had seen – the year before and sometime closer to the HDC meet, I had seen two separate units of Elan. But this was different, in that I was able to take a closer look at one.

That particular meet was the first time I’d bring cameras too – one decision that led me to maintain this little page.
So it held a memorabilia in my mind because I’d never see another Elan again, up until 2 years ago that I made the (pretty wrong) choice of choosing one super elusive Elan that caught my eye. The rest was a year of stress free motoring (lying), and free stress the next (not lying).
Cars ‘N’ Kopi at New Bahru was great – lesser people, less crowds, less (but still present) noise and revving, but I couldn’t be anymore surprised being informed that a “friend” had showed up. I look up and there it was – a familiar sight that momentarily transported me back to 3 years ago.

The owner wasn’t here for the meet at all or followed meets or were in the groups that promoted these events – he was just there to top-up his cashcard.
What made it all the more coincidental was it was his first time bringing his Elan to New Bahru. This was my second.

Feels like everything had come full circle. I hadn’t realized it then, but the significance of that day in 2022 was a catalyst to what I witnessed here.
I wouldn’t have expected that day be this impactful. Three years of car-spotting and eventual ownership came and gone – this feels like a reminder sent out for how far I have (not) come in those years.

I’m glad to see this car still being used – albeit very irregularly. If anything, apart from my car, I haven’t seen another one in a good while, with most of them supposedly being laid up or undergoing restoration.
It may be years since two have parked together – an event comically rarer than seeing a Koenigsegg – probably.
