A brazen bodykit on this Toyota Sera is convincing me of its sporty pedigree..

Ah, a plenty good spot to conclude the year. Another Toyota Sera was not on my bingo card to see on this trip (to be fair, the bingo card only has Thailand and Singaporean cars, leave me alone), but what do you know?

This Sera was coincidentally en route whilst I was, crossing paths in a (thankfully) emptier stretch of highway, therefore with these semi-nice roller shots as we whizzed past, much credit to my fast & furious family.

No Tokyo Drift here though, since the Sera is a front-wheel drive.

Specs of the Sera can be found in my other entry with a Singaporean-bound Sera, but the gist of this model is being powered by a 1.3-litre naturally aspirated four-pot, mated either to a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual and outputting not much horsepower standard. The star of the show would be the butterfly doors, a design where the doors would open upwards.

The total units produced does leave me second-guessing when I tried to search for the exterior pieces to discover that there is quite a multitude of different aftermarket pieces for the Sera. For a very bespoke model with only around 15.8k units produced globally, that’s quite impressive!

I’m at a bit of loss trying to find out this bodykit. It combines the original design of the Sera but includes some usual aftermarket elements like a big front lip, a design that I’m struggling to find out about. That’s just for the front bumper (hint: I like it lots), which the sideskirts and rear bumper I also cannot find. It seems to be quite a bespoke affair, and a pretty nice one at that!

The mid-mounted exhaust feels very at-home given the popularity of such a setup was created by the local Proton Satria Neo. As I’ve come to find out, this Sera is a manual unit, which is rad.

Unfortunately due to my lack of knowledge using CPL filters, there is a very obvious birefringence effect – the window of the car I was sitting in acting as a polarizer for my already polarized lens, creating this “creative” but ugly effect..

Anyhow, the photos still came out super sharp, and I quite like it. I haven’t done these shots in a long time or carried my camera around casually-yet-obsessively, so roller-like shots had taken a faraway backseat until now.

Also, I do want to add that I have most likely seen this exact car before. Back in a very old entry with my blog-like formats, uncompressed photos and a more carefree world, I did spot a similar tan-shaded Sera. The photo is very blurred, but I could roughly make out an identical rear bumper design and shiny alloys. Guess we meet again.
