Diving into the classifieds for some within-interest automobiles.
Oh yeah, so out of complete boredom as of recent, I’ve started looking at cars that do not make sense purchasing.
The car that honestly defined my taste in attainable dream cars, the Daihatsu Charade GTti. Many mention that in the UK, around 17 remain on the road. This might be inaccurate, seeing that the websites quoted tend to be the subject of debate surrounding accuracy, but 17 might not be far off, and certainly is extremely few in the whole of the United Kingdom. This is the only one on sale that I could find online as of right now, anywhere in the world. Seriously, there is ZERO of these for sale anywhere else that I could find, Facebook groups, Facebook marketplace, the lot.
This one is a one owner car, but is in very rough shape, being quoted with having rust with no specifics, non-working tacho, and an overall outlook of requiring TLC
At just 900 pounds, this might be worth something if taken sufficient care of, or as a parts car. With ASEAN’s overall parts availability still being sufficient, I do think that there can be life put into this car, even though it is all the way in the UK (And its self-collection only with a trailer advised, more work!), but genuinely, I think this is a really nice car. Next up is another G100 Daihatsu Charade, this time located more locally, in Malaysia. This has identical GTti exterior bits, but is a 5 door. I like the look of these 5 door Charade’s with the GTti kit fully in red. Listed for MYR5500, I think these cars are a cheap entry into hot hatch ownership. (Maybe?)
It has an overhauled 1.3 motor (That color matches the body, how nice!), and the paintwork was done in 2020. What are your thoughts? The listing is here.

A Lada in Malaysia? How intriguing.
Listed for sale at MYR40500, the sale listing lists what needs restoration: paint, interior and air conditioning. I’d assume that parts for a Russian car would be difficult to source in this part of the world, maybe more common for pre-90’s cars, but post, I’d assume even harder, or impossible to find parts. How’s another hot hatch? This Suzuki Cultus/Swift might be of interest.
3 door hatches that aren’t Ford Laser’s or the obligatory Proton Satria is hard to come by in Malaysia, so a Suzuki 3 door is a thing of rarity. This here is far from stock, as you can see by the exterior. The seller quotes many parts, all of which could be yours for a cool MYR25000. If you’re interested, the listing is here.

First generation Lotus Elise!
Personally the best looking and most memorable Lotus of them all, this yellow example is asking for MYR123000, which is definitely a hike compared to the other cars, but assuming these don’t often come up for sale, I place this here, because its just plain hot. The listing is here.

Personally, I perceive the Toyota Starlet EP70 as being the most common generation of Starlet among Malaysia and Singapore.
In terms of cosmetic condition, it looks really well preserved. Mentioned in the listing, the seats were refurbished in 2020, although no mention I could find about the exterior, except for mentioning potential rust spots. Overall though, this car looks like a proper blast to the past, even though I couldn’t say whether it could hit the 88 MPH needed to actually blast into the past, as there is no engine specification mentioned. I’d assume going by the fact it is an XL, that it has the 1.0L motor in it, which isn’t exactly quick.
Listed for MYR7999, I think its a nice little car and would be interesting for those looking for one. If you’re one of those people, the link to this car is here.

For something more domestic, this here is (supposedly) one of 150 Satria R3’s.
There is no actual price listed, but I’d assume the MYR4 is probably an indication that the asking price is somewhere around MYR40000. Just a hunch.
Still, with three photos, there isn’t lots to really confirm whether it is what it is or not, at least there isn’t lots of heavy denotions I could make out, as much as I am a huge Satria GTi fan. The interior shot looks reminiscent of the R3, and the engine bay shot also looks like the car has the R3 valve cover. What do you think? The next few listings will all be R3’s, so do bear with me.
This definitely looks more like a R3, with the condition being basically as is from the factory. Stock wheels, engine accessories, exterior R3 bits, its a pretty grand looking example. Yours for MYR45500, I myself find it very tempting, but if you too are interested, the link to it is here.

Here is another R3 model. This one is less original but I cannot say for sure how different it is. It has what I believe are CE28 wheels, and an exhaust that exits from the middle, akin to that of the Satria Neo’s design. For the same price as the very mint example above, at MYR45500, what would you rather choose? The link is here if you’re interested.

Last one, I promise! This is another Ipoh-located R3, and while there isn’t many photos of it, I think if you search generally for the Satria R3 online, you’ll likely find photos of this very car. For a steeper MYR55000, would you pick this over the other three? The listing can be found here.

Not a R3 this time!
While it is also in black, this Satria GTi is one of the lowest priced examples I could find, but I am aware that this was on sale for a while too, being at least several months old. The price had since gone down from 15k down to the current MYR13800, and boasts a list of aftermarket parts. The interior components appear to be largely original too, so it might be a decent base for a restoration project back to OEM. But say, if you do fancy a tuned hatch to enjoy in Penang area, this might be worth a go. The listing can be found here.

Moving on, now we’re in Honda Civic territory. This Civic EG’s description suggests requiring new paint, but I myself am not sure enough to say whether I am correct or not. From my findings, this is cheaper than other EG hatches, and is within EF hatch pricing.
Going by the spec list, it does also have aftermarket components, and has been done up to replicate a Type R. The EK9 type, so it even has the engine from one, especially when you see the interior, where it has the same red accents on its doorcards and seats. For MYR36999, would it be a good idea? The EF-generation of Civic is likely the best spot in terms of affordability and performance. The AH-generation of hatches is largely very cheap, and not many people recognize them. The EF generation hatches tend to be more expensive than the AH, but do receive nearly the same aftermarket support and community as the EG and EK’s.
This here is a rarer “untouched” unit, one that hasn’t had a fresh pair of buckets thrown into it, a B16, B18 or K-series stuck into it, all of that jazz. This is what might be referred to as unmolested, even though the wheels definitely spoil the unmodified look a little. The Integra steering wheel is out of place too. It is on its original shade of red, has a 1.5L motor and is generally cosmetically indifferent from what should look like out of the factory. And yes, it is a manual too. Now onto the more common condition that EF’s have.
This is a EF3 chassis as described by the seller, which is nice, as I nearly bought one in Singapore, so the EF3 chassis code has been popping into my head often. This has a B18C powering it, and has matching Recaro’s to fit the powertrain. I rather like the look of it as is, safe for the gear shifter, but for MYR38000 it might be a bit of a stretch for a EF chassis, but is likely justified by the B18C that powers it. What do you think? Now for somewhere more local, this EF hatch is something I have genuine interest with. For MYR25000, it’ll be yours. Powered by a stock B20 and sporting what I could guess is a stock interior safe for the Mugen steering wheel and metal shift knob, this looks like a nice little pocket rocket for Penang Island’s roads. Another EF hatch that I’m also interested in, this EF9 lookalike is also available for a similar price.
With a huge spec list, I do sense it might be much for a car like this, but my threshold is super low, so its likely just me. This also has the bonus of being an original EF3 chassis as well, plus in terms of interior, has OEM bits like the steering wheel and seats, which is to me, a nice touch. For MYR29000, this seems like a hot deal. I think I should stick to the original idea of trying the Integra first, though. The listing can be found here.

Okay, last EF generation Civic before I move right on. This unit started off as a ED6 before being given the aftermarket treatment, now being powered by a B16A and a dashboard from a CRX? A bit odd for my taste, but we’ll let it slide for the time being. This unit does not have as impressive a spec sheet as the one above, but I’m not complaining about this. It doesn’t appear to be in bad nick, and has been tastefully done up overall. It still has its original seats as well. For MYR25999, it might be worth considering like the other two above, especially concerning its location. The listing can be found here if you too are interested.

Now to fuel my thoughts on the yellow Integra, I present even more of them.
This isn’t a high spec, being powered by a D16 but providing a base for more ambitious projects, like Type R-swapping one of these for a more budget Integra experience. It is also a manual, and has pre-facelift DC2 wheels. For MYR23000, it might be worth something if you can find the means to swap the motor out for something more desirable. Round-headlight Integra’s aren’t fully reserved to USDM Integra’s, and are present in ASEAN markets too. From the photos, it is an automatic variant, but I believe the car is also advertised on another platform that may also offer an engine with the car. I’m not too sure, but this car, much similarly to the one above, is asking for MYR25000. These prices have me wondering; have the prices for these sedans gotten up? Just a few years ago could you have bought Type R converts for around 30k MYR, so these lower trim models selling for close to that can only mean that the prices have risen. Now for the posts I am watching, Type R converts that are currently for sale.
This has some amount of work done to it, of which I’d have to segment the list into two separate photos since it could not fit into the original screenshot.
With all that being said, it looks like a nice example, a clean engine bay, obligatory Type R exterior, Type R bits inside and others, it looks like a fine example. So what’s the asking price?
MYR50000. A stark leap from the other listing on Carousell that was listed over a year ago that sold for around 30k MYR. If this car does sell for around the listed price, I think there will be potential for the Penang unit, especially where sourcing parts are concerned or worst of the worst, rust. Alright, here is another converted sedan.
This time, its in white. That being said, it does have more work put into it to replicate a Type R, with the seller mentioning a DC2 dashboard fitted, among other things. Scary! But yes, this has had more work done to imitate a Type R. So what’s the asking price? MYR52000. I think this and the example above does show that the Integra sedan market currently has risen, such that they’re evermore getting closer to eclipsing the prices of Integra coupes that are converted to Type R’s!. Alright, this is it then. The post is extremely different from any others that I’ve done thus far, but I’ve thinking of doing more “transparent” posts like these for the near future. We’ll see how it goes. More importantly, I do want to put these out as a bit of an archival to what’s on the market now and how things look.
