Singapore – 5/12/23 – One defining feature of old Singapore were its taxis, namely the Toyota Crown Comfort’s that once roamed the land.

These days, zero of these cars remain, putting the end to an era.

Singapore’s taxis comprise of newer Hyundai’s, Toyota’s and a few other brands, namely Lexus very recently at the time of writing being introduced into the taxi fleets.

The Crown a sorely missed icon of past motoring, one that is revered by many for its ample space compared to contemporary counterparts. This civillian and not-so-same-y Royal Saloon would be the last remaining piece of that era.

The JZS155 chassis Toyota Crown looks like its taxi counterpart, effectively bearing the same front-end design as the Comfort taxis.

Powertrain and luxury features are more different, with the Royal Saloon bearing a naturally aspirated 2JZ. Some amount of Supra pace to be had in this luxury sedan.

Most photos of the JZS155 I’m referring to were taken sometime around 2021-2022, presumably the last Crown of its generation in Singapore left.

Photos from other carspotters from before 2021 never posted any other units, thus the assumption it is the only one left.

As of 5/12/23, the plate is no longer valid on LTA’s database, meaning that these are now an extinct breed. Unless someday the car does appear again, it is safe to say that the last standing Crown Royal Saloon – the last of the old taxi designs – are fully gone from Singapore now.
